Of course, we don’t always get the lovely fluffy snow we’d hoped for. Sometimes it’s just another freezing, rainy afternoon, and that’s where these 15 printable snowflake designs come in handy.

I’ve included a little bit of everything, from big, simple snowflakes for younger children to adorable smiling snowflakes, sweet winter animals, and beautifully detailed designs for anyone who enjoys a quiet coloring session.

They’re lovely for snowy days at home, winter classroom activities, or those afternoons when the kids have run out of things to do and you need something easy that doesn’t involve another trip to the shops.

Every page is completely free to download and print, so grab your crayons, dig out those pretty blue pencils, and let’s bring a little snow indoors — without the wet socks and muddy footprints!

1. Two Easy Snowflakes to Color

Sometimes the simplest activities are the biggest hit, especially with younger children! These two chunky snowflakes have plenty of room for little hands to practice coloring. You could even let your child choose two completely different color combinations and see which one they like best.

2. Beautiful Detailed Winter Snowflake

This is one I’d keep for myself when the house is finally quiet! The delicate little branches would look gorgeous in icy blues, lavender and silver. Start in the middle and work your way out, choosing a slightly different shade for each section.

3. Big and Little Snowflakes Coloring Page

I love how this page has one enormous snowflake surrounded by five smaller ones. It would make a fun little counting activity for preschoolers. Ask them to find the biggest snowflake, count the little ones, and decide which they’d like to color first.

4. Three Intricate Snowflake Designs

Wouldn’t these look lovely hanging in a window? Older children might enjoy giving each snowflake its own color scheme before carefully cutting them out. Hang them with a little string at different heights for a homemade winter display that doesn’t cost a fortune.

5. Happy Snowflake in a Winter Forest

This happy little snowflake looks rather pleased with all the snow! I can just imagine it floating through a forest full of Christmas trees. Let the kids turn the background into a colorful winter wonderland, perhaps with purple trees, pink snow, or even a rainbow sky. Why not?

6. Snowflakes Falling Outside the Window

One of my favorite things about winter is being indoors where it’s lovely and warm, watching the weather through the window. This would be a sweet activity for a gloomy afternoon. Afterwards, ask your child to draw what they can see outside their own bedroom window.

7. Large Snowflake with a Decorative Frame

There’s something satisfying about a big snowflake with neat, matching branches. This one would be lovely for children who enjoy coloring carefully, and the square frame makes it easy to turn into a little piece of wall art. Just add a homemade paper frame or pop it on the fridge!

8. Pretty Snowflake with Layered Details

Fancy trying something a little different? Use a pale blue for the outer branches and a deeper blue for the smaller shapes inside. It’s a simple way to experiment with color combinations, and children can have fun seeing how different their snowflakes look using the same two pencils.

9. Simple Geometric Snowflake Coloring Page

This one has lovely big spaces that are much easier for younger children to manage. If your little one isn’t interested in sitting still for long, try turning it into a quick color challenge. Can they finish the snowflake using just three colors before their favorite song ends?

Oh, just look at that little face! This sweet snowflake reminds me of the sort of happy character children immediately want to give a name to. I think it would look adorable with rosy pink cheeks and a pale blue body. You could even make up a little bedtime story about its adventures.

11. S Is for Snowflake Alphabet Coloring Page

A little learning without making it feel like homework! This is a lovely one for preschoolers practicing the letter S. Have fun thinking of other words beginning with S — snowman, scarf, sled and Santa are a good start. You could even hunt around the house for things that begin with the same sound.

12. Little Winter Fox and a Snowflake

This sweet little fox looks completely fascinated by the snowflake floating beside its nose! I’d color the fox a lovely warm orange and use soft blues for the snowflake. If your child loves animals, ask them what other woodland creatures might come out to play on a snowy morning.

This one would be so lovely displayed in a child’s bedroom throughout winter. Let the kids choose their favorite colors for the big lettering, then add a little sparkle to the hanging snowflakes. It’s also a nice one to decorate together when you’re putting away the Christmas decorations and the house suddenly feels a bit bare.

5 Easy Snowflake Crafts to Try with Kids

Don’t put those finished pictures away just yet! There are lots of lovely little things you can make with them, and most only need a pair of scissors, some string, and whatever you’ve already got hiding in the craft drawer.

Make a snowflake window display. Carefully cut out your favorite snowflakes and stick them to a window with removable tape. If you’re feeling extra creative, hang a few from the curtain pole with string so they look like they’re falling from the sky.

Create a winter bedroom garland. Let each child color three or four snowflakes, cut them out, and attach them to a long piece of ribbon. It’s such an easy way to brighten up a bedroom after the Christmas decorations come down.

A Little Winter Craft Safety Tip

Little hands love getting creative, but some snowflakes can be tricky to cut out! Let younger children enjoy the coloring while a grown-up takes care of the scissors and any fiddly cutting. For older kids, use child-safe scissors with adult supervision, and keep tiny craft decorations away from little ones who might put them in their mouths.

Try a snowflake matching game. Print two copies of a few simple snowflakes, color each matching pair the same way, and cut them into cards. Turn them face down and let the kids take turns finding the matching pairs.

Make your own snowy gift tags. Print your favorite designs at a smaller size, color them in, and cut them out. Add a little hole and some string for handmade winter gift tags that look especially pretty on brown paper packages.

Create a giant family snowstorm. Give everyone a different snowflake to decorate, including the grown-ups! Once they’re finished, arrange them together on a big piece of blue paper to make your very own indoor snowstorm. No hats or gloves required!
